URBED (Urbanism, Environment and Design) does what its name suggests: they specialise in urban design and sustainability in an urban context. The work is rooted in the principles of the urban renaissance. They believe in the importance of creating and sustaining lively, prosperous towns and cities by focusing new development within existing settlements and creating attractive, mixed-use, walkable and socially mixed urban neighbourhoods. The practice works across the UK, from its bases in Manchester and London, for public and private sector clients. Recent work has ranged from town centre strategies to planning applications for large mixed-use masterplans, from University estate strategies to urban design guidance. URBED’s work is united by its core values of urbanism, community, environmental sustainability and design.
